"The Birth of Atlantis"

Size 42-53 cm. Oil on Canvas on Hardboard: A fish fossil on a small plate. Eocene Age, about 45 million years old. Fossils Found - Kemmer, Wyoming USA.

Ancient fossils remind me of the ancient island of Atlantis, when it existed in the Atlantic Ocean west of Gibraltar. In the writings of the ancient Greek philosopher Plato, these are the earliest references to Atlantis.

The people of Atlantis possessed unique knowledge, some of which is unattainable in our time. Why did the island suddenly sink into the Atlantic Ocean? According to many scientists, the reason was an earthquake split the island into many parts. The people of Atlantis foresaw this disaster. Why did they not try to escape? This remains a mystery.
